Ariel and the Rainy-Day Tea Party

The morning was perfect — warm sunlight spilling across the garden, birds gossiping in the hedges, and a breeze just strong enough to flutter the ribbons on Ariel’s hat. She had planned everything for her tea party: lemon tarts lined up like sunshine, strawberry sandwiches shaped like hearts, and a pot of chamomile tea waiting to pour. Her best friend, Lila, was on her way, and Ariel couldn’t wait.

By noon, the table was set under the apple tree, lace cloth rippling like a sail. Ariel added one last touch — a little vase of daisies. But as she stood back to admire her work, a shadow crossed the garden. The air cooled. A single drop fell onto her hand.

Then another. And another.

“Oh no,” Ariel groaned as the rain began to fall in earnest. She scrambled to cover the treats, but it was too late — raindrops splashed onto tarts, tea, and toast. The lace darkened, the daisies drooped.

Just then, Lila arrived, umbrella in hand and laughter in her voice. “Well,” she said, peering at the soggy table, “looks like the sky wanted to join the party.”

Ariel couldn’t help but giggle. “Maybe it’s the world’s biggest teapot.”

Instead of hiding inside, they decided to stay. They kicked off their shoes and danced through puddles that glittered like mirrors. The air smelled of wet grass and apple blossoms; their laughter mixed with the drumming rain. Lila poured rainwater into teacups, pretending they were sipping “storm tea.” Ariel crowned herself Queen of the Puddle Kingdom with a daisy stem, and Lila bowed dramatically, raindrops dripping from her hair.

Soon, their laughter echoed across the garden louder than the rain itself. The world felt alive — shining, splashing, sparkling with joy.

When the clouds finally parted, sunlight poured through the trees, turning every puddle to gold. The soggy tablecloth glowed, and the daisies lifted their heads again.

Lila smiled, handing Ariel a damp but perfect strawberry sandwich. “You know,” she said, “this might be the best tea party ever.”

Ariel nodded, eyes bright. “Because love makes every moment special — rain or shine.”
